Two Green Beat Cafes held... with Tony Overwater and Bert van den Brink
Heleen has organized two Green Beat Cafes in Amsterdam, a long standing plan! High quality music inspired by landscapes around the world combined with short audiovisuals, & interesting stories about nature.
We started with a great team on November 17th 2017, in which Heleen's new Blue Lifeblood project on powerful water sources met Tony Overwater's musical passion for the dry, dry Middle Eastern world. Musicians accompanying Tony Overwater (double bass, violone, compositions), were Nizar Rohana (ud) and Ruven Ruppik (percussion). These three incredible musicians also joined in with Heleen (voice, compositions) and Thijs Cuppen (piano) trying out the first 7 songs from the Blue Lifeblood project.
The second evening on January 19th 2018 hosted Bert van den Brink (piano) Bart Fermie (percussion) and Theo de Jong (bass). Heleen again tried out some songs for Blue Lifeblood with this fine team and in addition performed other nature-inspired songs from her earlier albums
In February/March 2017 Heleen has travelled to Ghana for Green Beat Performers She collaborated with Ghanean hiplife artist Obour and his highly skilled musical friends such as Nero X, Richie and MZVee on an inspirational composing journey into the Atewa Forest. Atewa is a beautiful nature area not far from capital city Accra, and essential to its water provision. It hosts more butterfly species than the whole of Europe together! The team created and recorded a song & clip, and Heleen also performed at the International Concert of the Ghana Music Week Festival. Atewa needs better protection against mining, most of all...

WORKSHOP in TUSCANY - Summer 2021:
July 16-23: Singing and songwriting workshop in Casa Agnano, a simple but magnificent spot located in a beautiful hilly Tuscan landscape. For singers with some experience, no songwriting experience required. We'll deal with singing & stage performance techniques, and work on (yourwon) lyrics - possibly inspired by the cultural and natural environment of Tuscany? We can host 6-8 people. Each person works from own level of skill and experience. Welcome!

Solo on Stage! Solo song interpretation and stage performance for singers with (medium) experience as soloists or choir singers. IJburg, Amsterdam. Bilingual (Dutch/English).
EARLIER EXPERIENCES. I gave a longer term course in song interpretation and presentation to experienced singers in IJburg in 2019. In 2017 I offered a singing weekend in a beautiful Dutch nature area (Drents-Friese Wold, Appelscha), with co-teacher Marjolein van den Hombergh. With her I also held a full week on singing technique, interpretation and stage performance in Roosendaal, 2016.
I gave various singing workshops at Ecolonie summer colony in 2016 & 2017: near Hennezel, Vosgues, France. In 2015 I held a songwriting & song presentation workshop week in the Dutch Dunes in Schoorl.
Before that, and since 2008 I gave various longer term courses for singers in song interpretation and presentation in my own studio in Amsterdam, as well at Buitenkunst.
Proud of Pantanal Poetica
Pantanal Poetica has been a musical adventure with scientists, environmentalists and musicians from Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina literally on board of our trip in October 2015. We created TEN new songs inspired by the waters of the Pantanal, which have been spread by You Tube, through a documentary, and LIVE by the artists active in all those countries. The songs were informed and inspired by the beauty and uniqueness of the Pantanal, the largest tropical freshwater wetland on this globe, and home to well-known animals such as the jaguar, the giant otter, or the hyacinthe macaw.
One of the new songs surely will be an anchor in my own upcoming new CD project Blue Lifeblood. Pantanal Poetica is an initiative of Green Beat Performers, which was developed and carried out with MUPAN, UFMS and many other partners in Brazil and beyond. See the links for more info and impressions of this very inspiring project. Listen to the songs!
Concerts, radio shows and network meetings Indonesia
In June 2015 I visited Sumatra, Java and Bali and performed with young and established jazz musicians in Medan and Jakarta, 3, 6 and 7 June. The invitation was meant for Jazz Hijau, the musical cooperation project between Walhi, IUCN NL and Green Beat. We also gave two hour-long national level radio talkshows in which songs of the Cds were featured and I sang some songs in Bahasa Indonesia. On Bali I met extensively with singer-composer Robi from Navicula, also an artist inspired by nature conservation. For further info see the newspage of Green Beat.
Check out the video made earlier of my work and involvement in the Jazz Hijau/ Green Jazz project, on You Tube (links on this website to You Tube do not work temporarily!).
An Ode to the Dutch Dunes, a wonderful workshop week
In July 2015 I organized a workshop week for singers and songwriters in one of the Netherlands most beautiful areas: the Dunes of Schoorl. The area, its animals, landscape, people and history inspired us to write new material. Participants also interpreted existing poetry and songs related to the sea and dunes and presented all on stage. A happy week, totally plunged into nature, good lyrics, good songs, good poetry, good company. Happy to repeat, here and elsewhere. Part of our Green Beat concept. Heleen.
